... aaaaand YTMNHamei! Thanks! All the assertions disappeared. Works perfectly except there's a odd glitch with icons for gopher sites, though I imagine I'm the first one to notice. Going to play with it a little more, but so far no major problems.

Does anyone (hi diegel !) happen to know the name of the actual executable that this version of firefox runs as ? Would like to use a real minimized icon here, I've tried just about every name ff ever used and every name that shows up in top, the process manager, pstree, you name it. FF doesn't like any of them

Nope, you got the question right and the same answers as me. Too bad they seem to be the wrong answers

If you put an rgb image file in $HOME/.icons with the executable_name-dot-icon as a name, when you minimize the application you get that picture as an icon. Works for every other application I have. FF2 required some other name, iirc it was either "mozilla" or "Mozilla". FF3 doesn't respond to any of the names I've tried, both the ones you point out and about a half-dozen others - none of the names it shows up as in process manager, pstree, top, nuthin'. What the hell is it calliing itself ?

p.s. - your screenshots look as bad as mine

Are you running on that Times Square display setup nowadays ?

If it's not firefox-bin, then it might be xulrunner (or some variant thereof such as xulrunner-bin). None of my IRIX boxes are currently powered up so I can't check the Nekoware package myself. Have a look and see what you've got that starts with xulrunner, though.

The 'firefox' executable is actually just a short shell script which launches the real executable (after setting up its environment), so if all else fails have a read through the script and see what it calls.

Yes, with a single page (no multiple tabs) the window title updates as expected. But once you start opening multiple tabs, the window title seems to get set to the title from the last tab or page opened. Then it didn't matter if I close that tab, the window title stays the same. if I click on links in a remaining tab, no change to the title. If I type a new location in the location bar, though, the title will update. And the same if I open a new tab.

I've tried 3.0.19 again, this time on a fresh install on Octane, got a core dump.
I have never run or installed 2.x or any other firefox prior to this.

It had failed on the tezro too, which did run 2.x before.

There is something seriously wrong with your setup. I have a ten-year-old Irix installation, try just about every beta that comes off the server, compile lots of stuff myself with little skill and close to no knowledge, and this FF3 works for me on hardware similar to yours.

I have more problems than some people see but it does work. So ..... something is absolutely not correct at your house. Do you use any other nekoware ?

Oh, I see the issue.

When I call firefox-bin directly it works, when I use the wrapper (/usr/nekoware/lib/firefox-3.0.19/firefox, which itself calls run-mozilla.sh) it fails.
Would this indicate an issue with setrlimits or such? I haven't looked at the wrapper script, but I assume it interferes with something.

Okay, I found out what the issue was; precisely.

With the environment variable _RLDN32_LIST=libOMPdlor.so:libOMPmaster.so:libOMPcodec.so::libXext.so:libX1.so:libCio.so:libC.so:DEFAULT
firefox segfaults; when I unset it, it works great. This behavior is new with firefox3 (on irix).

I let you meditate on this, but this was the root cause of my issue.

This variable is set by the OpenGL multipipe wrapper.

Is there anyone here running this FF 3.0.19 build who uses Yahoo Mail? Yahoo has just
updated its mail service; the new 'basic' layout is a total mess on Seamonkey 1.1.19 and
FF 2.0.0.22pre, with all sorts of functionality broken (can't even copy/paste messages
from the window like I used to). Looks ok on a PC of course. Anyway, I was pondering
trying this FF3 build on my Fuel to see if it helps at all, but if someone here is a Yahoo
user then I'd be most grateful for any info/comment.

Yes, but deferring the new layout (on all systems) as long as possible!

As I type I'm doing a clone backup of my Fuel, prior to installing the FF3 update package, see what happens.
If it can't handle Yahoo Mail, well... I don't know. Mail is *the* main thing I do on my SGI. Using winblows for
email?? Yuk...

In Seamonkey/FF2, faults in the layout include missing buttons and button text in the wrong place, date
column always too far to the right out of view, cannot highlight text, etc.

Here's hoping FF3 can help...
