Applied Precision's DeltaVision(tm) wide-field optical sectioning microscope is designed for acquiring high resolution, three-dimensional images of fuorescently labeled specimens. Due to its highly sensitive image acquisition system, DeltaVision yields higher resolution images, at substantially lower illumination intensity, than confocal microscopes. A Silicon Graphics workstation controls the microscope and enables application of sophisticated 3D image processing algorithms to remove out-of-focus information and optical distortions. The elegant integration of features allows superior five-dimensional imaging: simultaneous 3D, multiple wavelength and time-lapse data acquisition. The gentle imaging environment and powerful analysis tools make it possible to investigate fundamental issues of cellular physiology.
