RIO presents a new generation of intelligent I/O controllers. Based on an Inmos Transputer, a 20 MIPS RISC parallel processor, RIO provides the highest performance, fault-tolerant I/O solution available.
RIO will support 128 ports per host card, 512 ports per system, at speeds up to 115.2K baud. Remote Terminal Adaptors (RTA's), each with its own RISC processor, are connected via twisted-pair or fiber optic cables and can be daisy-chained up to 10 miles away.
RIO continuously monitors the system, and in the unlikely event that a link has been broken, will search for an alternative routing with no loss of data. The RIO software graphically displays system status and utilizes pull-down menus for installation and configuration.
